Questing

Okay, so I'm running out of options, which is why I'm putting out this plea. I need to find a place to live in Pittsburgh, near Carnegie Mellon University, for January - May 2012. 

RELEVANT FACTS ABOUT ME:

1. I am a 20-year-old woman who loves long walks on the beach to have fun, but I'm more on the quiet side. READ: I don't do wild parties, I definitely do comfortable nights in, Scrabble, and heated debates over fictional characters.

2. I'm studying dramaturgy, history, and English. I'm a bit of a nerd. Okay, a lot of a nerd.

3. I cook pretty well, if I do say so myself, and I'm pretty tidy. I also consume massive amounts of tea.

4. I will spend a lot of time out of the house. I will have many nightly rehearsals, I work, I have classes, and I'm on the Quidditch team. I am busy, a lot.

RELEVANT FACTS ABOUT YOU:

1. You're a non-smoker, or else you only smoke outside, or casually. I don't hate on smokers, but I can't live in a smoker's house.

2. You're a responsible adult. I guess what I mean by this is that you don't go nutso every weekend and you aren't dirty (a little sloppiness is natural, though). 

3. You are a woman. (I don't care what your sexuality is, but my parents are helping pay for my housing, and they'd flip if I was living alone with a guy. Sorry, boys.)

3b. OR You are a couple or family willing to rent a room to a poor college student.

RELEVANT FACTS ABOUT THE HOME:

1. It's got to be very close to Carnegie Mellon University. I do not, at the moment, have a car.

2. I think this kind of goes without saying in the real world, but it has to have a kitchen, with a stove and an oven. And, you know, a refrigerator.

3. Ideally I would have my own bedroom. This isn't a must, but it would be really, really good. Also, if it's a studio apartment that you just need a tenant for, I'm good with living alone, as well.

4. Obviously, the lowest rent possible is ideal, but I seriously cannot do more than $600/month. 

5. I'm cool with pets.

3. Like I said, I'm a nerd. I love books, I love research, I love history. I also like adventure, though - travel, hiking, rock climbing, etc.

PLEASE PM ME IF YOU HAVE ANY LEADS! I'm friendly and I'll answer your questions and hopefully I can find somewhere to live, instead of living in one of the buildings on campus. Because that's illegal. :)

 So Pottermore is revealed! An online "reading experience" in which we get involved in the books and Jo provides more information about the world of Harry Potter. Sounds like a cross between RPG, encyclopedia, and online books. It opens in October, but a few get in in August. Oh, what I would do to be one of those few...!!!

 Tonight, I saw Superior Donuts at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre.

Also, we almost got hit by a bus. While in a car. At an intersection. Terrifying, to be sure.

 I went to a Catholic service today, in part because I thought it would be interesting, and in part because I was going with a friend. The service was nice -- right up until they denied me Communion.

I get that Catholics don't give other Christians Communion. I honestly forgot that. Nor did I think that I was going to get up to the front and have the woman ask me, "Are you Catholic?" Do I exude Protestantism? My point is, I don't like it, and I did not get Communion on Easter Sunday. 

 In an episode of Veronica Mars, there is this joke that one girl's roommate just changes her clothes all the time. MY ROOMMATE DOES THIS. I think she wears three different outfits a day. I don't pretend to understand.

In other new, the school's Carnival is here. It is really cool, and there is a Ferris wheel behind my dorm. 

Here is the problem. (And I just need a place to complain right now.) I hate being in a long distance relationship. Honestly, it sucked a lot last semester too, but it is getting to an unbearable point this time around. I sort of had assumed it would get easier, but it doesn't. I feel like something is missing practically all the time, and I get jealous of couples I see around. And of course I don't like the fact that we won't be together for Valentine's Day, which I know is a Hallmark holiday and shouldn't really mean anything, but it does anyway, and people are going to be celebrating it, and I'm going to be going to crew. In exactly one month, I will be back in NYC, with him, at the start of spring break. I should consider that I've basically gone through a month of school already (and it feels like it's flown by), but I don't even want to acknowledge that there are four weeks to go until I can see my boyfriend again.

So here at school, all the students of the school of drama are required to do a crew assignment. As you might guess, not all crew assignments are equal. Some are during midterms, some are three weeks, some are one week, some are streneous, some are simple, some are off-campus. 

That being said, tonight I went to audition for the student theatre company's production of Cabaret. I actually kind of miss acting, and I really niss singing. But when I got there, I got this nagging feeling. So I asked when rehearsals start. (The show is in mid-April.) They start next week. Well, guess who has crew every night, off-campus, the week prior to mid-terms, for three weeks, in February. Moi. So. I couldn't even audition, much less be cast.

Dammit.

I got back from work last night at 4:30 am (the night shift, what can you do?), and discovered that my roommate was not in the room. Assuming that she was partying or something, I went to sleep. But she did not return at all, as I woke up and her bed was undisturbed. My point: she really does not live here.

So I just wrote an email in Gmail (which I don't typically use) and got a pleasant (and a teeny bit frightning) surprise. After I hit send, a little box popped up, saying basically: "Hi! You wrote 'I've attached' but you haven't attached anything. You want to send it anyway?" It saved me from making the mistake of sending something without the promised attachment. What.

I could really imagine this pleasant robotic voice acting like a servant...

"Excuse me, Madame, but I believe you've made a slight error."

British robot, of course.
